As we were off for 2 weeks my group missed the visit to the Ulster museum and botanic gardens, so we were asked to create some studies of views from windows and nature at home, using charcoal or chalk.
by mistake I bought a black paper sketchbook but decided to try the task on it anyway, instead of using charcoal I used white chalk to create highlights and use the background for negative space, then I covered a page in white chalk and created a study using charcoal.
Even though I thought the studies on black paper looked very interesting I decided to get another sketchbook and try it with charcoal, I found this to be easier than on black paper, however it was slightly less forgiving with any of the mistakes as they were harder to cover or fix, despite this I liked how the outcome of these sketches looked.
