from a young age I have always loved fashion, design and making, so the first career I decided to research was fashion designer. While researching, i found that technically there is no formal way of breaking through to the fashion industry, however, a formal education on the skills within the craft and business techniques is a good start. I would then need to both focus on building an impressive portfolio and begin to build a client base, as word of mouth is usually the best form of advertising and publicity. starting to present my work on different social medias will also put me out to be explored by a wider demographic. There are a few companies looking to employ new fashion designers, however they will most likely only consider those with previous experience working for another fashion design company, which again would make it difficult to break into from a semi-amateur stance.
Another career that I came across and was very interested in was a Fashion Illustrator, they work with designers to create conceptual sketches and illustrations of fashion products, for example hats, shoes , clothing. as well as this they illustrate and develop drawings and images for advertising purposes. The most simple way I found to begin this career is to join an internship and climb the ladder to full time employment, it is also imperative that you have good drawing skills both on paper and digitally, also a bachelors degree in fashion or textiles is required for some apprenticeships.
